Massage Therapy Certificate Completion Plan

PROGRAM INFORMATION:  The Massage Therapy Certificate is designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for graduates to take the national exam to become licensed Massage Therapists. Licensed Massage Therapists work in many settings including Day Spas, Physicians and Chiropractic offices, wellness centers, at hotels,  resorts or country clubs or in private practice. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment of massage therapists is projected to grow 21 percent from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations. Demand will likely increase as more healthcare providers understand the benefits of massage and these services become part of treatment plans. Texas ranks third in the nation for employed licensed massage therapists (California and Florida rank 1 and 2) The BLS indicates the annual median wage for Massage Therapists in Texas is $42,820 or $20.59 per hour. Massage Therapists help clients overcome injury, relieve stress, and generally live healthier lives. The two semester program is designed to prepare students to become nationally certified. Upon graduation and certification students are eligible to take the Mblex exam and when passed can apply for their massage therapy license.

Notice to Students Regarding Licensing – Massage Therapist

Effective September 1, 2017, HB 1508 amends the Texas Occupations Code Section 53 that requires education providers to notify you, a potential or enrolled student, that a criminal history may make you ineligible for an occupational license upon program completion. The following website provides links to information about the licensing process and requirements. https://www.tdlr.texas.gov/mas/mas.htm Should you wish to request a review of the impact of criminal history on your potential Massage Therapy license prior to or during your quest for a degree, you can visit this link and request a “Criminal History Evaluation.”
https://www.tdlr.texas.gov/crimHistoryEval.htm

This information is being provided to all persons who apply or enroll in the program with notice of the requirements as described above, regardless of whether or not the person has been convicted of a criminal offense.  Additionally, HB 1508 authorizes licensing agencies to require reimbursements when a student fails to receive the required notice.
