Basic Peace Officer Certificate (Police Academy) Degree Plan
The Basic Peace Officer Course Certificate (Program) offered by the Navarro College Police Academy (NC PA) consists of 728 hours, of which 696 is required by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) curriculum. The NC PA program provides an additional 32 hours to include TASER Certification, extended skills training for active shooter, and a comprehensive review for the State Licensing Exam. The Navarro College program is designed to prepare students to pass the Peace Officer licensing exam given at the end of the program. The program consists of 42 topics ranging from 2 hours to 74 hours in length. Approximately one-third of the program is devoted to developing the physical skills required to become a peace officer. The program includes training in the following areas: current penal and traffic law, defensive tactics, first aid, patrol tactics, cultural diversity, and firearms.
Admission to Navarro College is a separate procedure from admission to the Navarro College Police Academy. Eligible applicants must first meet all admission criteria for Navarro College. Applicants are then required to submit a Police Academy Application and Personal History Statement to the Police Academy Coordinator, schedule a FAST Fingerprint appointment, and take the TSI test. Exemptions for the TSI test are listed in the catalog. Admission Requirements

With an additional 12 hour course credit completed with Navarro College, and completion
of the Police Academy, students may initiate paperwork with the Police Academy Coordinator
or the Department Chair of Criminal Justice to articulate credit towards a Criminal
Justice certificate or associates degree. Courses that will be awarded through the articulation process are CJLE 2420, CJLE 2421, and CJLE 2522. All in-service courses are accredited by TCOLE and are offered year-round through the Navarro College Police Academy. |
