0 lec/3 lab (1 Cr.) Introduction to the science of pharmacology with emphasis on the actions, interactions, adverse effects, and nursing implications of each drug classification. Topics include the roles and responsibilities as well as the skills of the nurse in safe administration of medications within a legal/ethical framework. 

 

RNSG 1144 Nursing Skills II

0 lec/2 lab (1 Cr.) Study of the concepts and principles necessary to perform intermediate or advanced nursing skills for the adult patient and demonstrate competence in the performance of nursing procedures. Content includes knowledge, judgment, skills and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. This course lends itself to a blocked approach.

 

RNSG 1201 Pharmacology

3 lec/1 lab (2 Cr.) Introduction to the science of pharmacology with emphasis on the actions, interactions, adverse effects, and nursing implications of each drug classification. RNSG 1261 Clinical- Nursing Foundations

8 external hours (2 Cr.) 16 clinical hours a week for 8 weeks) Clinical experience involving direct patient/client nursing care in selected long-term care and acute care clinical facilities. The student will be expected to apply foundations of nursing practice theory concepts and skills as well as demonstrate legal and ethical behavior, safety practices, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and appropriate communication. 

 

RNSG 1262 Clinical - Nursing Practice I For Articulating Students

6 external hours (2 Cr.) (16 hours a week) A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional.

RNSG 1361 Clinical- Nursing Care of Clients With Common Health Care Needs

12 external hours (3 Cr.) (16 hours a week) Clinical experience involving the provision of nursing care to diverse clients/families experiencing common health care needs. The student will be expected to apply related theory, concepts, and skills as well as demonstrate legal and ethical behavior, safety practices, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and appropriate communication. 

 

RNSG 1412 Nursing Care of the Childbearing and Childrearing Family

3 lec/3 lab (4cr) Study of the concepts related to the provision of nursing care for childbearing and childrearing families. Application of systematic problem-solving processes and critical thinking skills, including a focus on the childbearing family during the perinatal periods and the childrearing family from birth to adolescence; and competency in knowledge, judgment, skill, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. This course lends itself to a blocked approach.

 

RNSG 1413 Foundations of Nursing Practice

3 lec/4 lab (4 Cr.) Introduction to the role of the associate degree nurse as a provider of care, coordinator of care, and member of a profession. Topics include fundamentals of nursing, and nursing knowledge, judgment, skills and professional values within a legal/ethical framework.

3 lec/3 lab (4 Cr.)  Integration of previous knowledge and skills related to common adult health needs into the continued development of the professional nurse as a provider of patient-centered care, patient safety advocate, member of health care team, and member of the profession in the care of adult patients and families with complex medical-surgical health care needs associated with body systems. Emphasis on complex knowledge, judgments, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. This course lends itself to a blocked approach.

 

RNSG 1517 Concepts of Nursing Practice I For Articulating Students

4 lec/2 lab (5 Cr.) Provides the articulating student the opportunity to examine the role of the professional nurse; application of clinical reasoning processes and clinical judgment related to patient care; and competency in knowledge, judgment, skill, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. This course lends itself to either a blocked or integrated approach.

 

RNSG 2161 Clinical-Nursing Care of the Childbearing and Childrearing Family

(72 SCH) A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professionals.

RNSG 2404 Integrated Care of the Patient With Common Health Care Needs

3 lec/2 lab (4 Cr.) Application of a systematic problem-solving process and critical thinking skills to provide nursing care to diverse patients and families across the life span with common health care needs. Emphasis on secondary disease prevention and collaboration with members of the interdisciplinary health care team. Content includes applicable competencies in knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. 

 

RNSG 2414 Integrated Care of the Patient With Complex Health Care Needs

3 lec/4 lab (4 Cr.) Application of clinical reasoning processes and clinical judgment to provide comprehensive nursing care to patients and families across the lifespan with complex health care needs including, but not limited to, complex childhood/adolescent diseases, complicated perinatal care, acute mental illness, complex perioperative care, complex adult health problems and health issues related to aging. Emphasis on tertiary disease prevention, health maintenance/restoration and collaboration with members of the interdisciplinary health care team. Content includes the roles of the professional nurse and applicable competencies in knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. This course lends itself to an integrated approach.

 

RNSG 2435 Integrated Client Care Management

4 lec/week (4 Cr.) Application of independent nursing interventions to care for patients and families throughout the lifespan whose health care needs may be difficult to predict. Emphasis on collaborative clinical reasoning, nursing leadership skills, and patient management. Content includes the significance of professional development, trends in nursing and health care, and applicable knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. This course lends itself to an integrated approach.

 

RNSG 2461 Clinical- Nursing Care of Clients With Complex Health Care Needs

16 external hours (4 Cr.) (16 clinical hrs. a week) A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional.
